THE KASAB ‘Hangover’

Kasab166 killed and 300 injured in a matter of few minutes. And it took full four years to kill just one. Oh yes, the laws of the state, moral code of conduct and judicial judgment. It does take time. No wonder, why his execution has been a secret affair till date. And now, once disclosed, it’s hyped in the light of national justice: Kasab hanged as a tribute to the martyrs of Mumbai attacks. Cheers! The tribute, perhaps, could have been more sensible and less tragic, if it had played a little less with the emotions of millions, for four long years!

That was my first thought when I heard about Kasab’s execution. But, somewhere inside me there was this voice that said ok it’s done, but should we as humans rejoice over it? Should we all be busy updating congratulatory status updates on our Facebook walls thinking we are doing our bit?

A happy ending, supposedly, is one, where all that finally ends could not have ended any better!

In such cases, surprisingly, this ending is literally ‘The End’! So, can we call it happy? Or we should rather suffice by calling it ‘the end’ and not really dance over someone’s death?

Nothing dies a more brutal death than ‘death’ itself. It’s profound when it strikes, but eventually fades away as memories take a backseat and angst subsides. While I strongly feel that the much awaited justice has come to those hundreds of families who lost their loved ones in that unfortunate event; I can’t stop myself from thinking that it is not something we should congratulate each other about.

While many tabloids tap Kasab’s execution in the light of 26/11 terror attacks, claiming it as a potential retort to all kinds of justice/mercy-pleas, if ever they existed; there’s something really weird in this mega-ethical concern!

Chapter closed, because he finally dies. Putting an end to many suspended emotions, relieving many grieved minds and maybe setting a few on a new path of dilemma. The ‘hangover’ however, might stay for a while more because sometimes, reason battles way too long to decide what emotions have already decided from the start.
